In Room 18, students can earn money by following directions, bringing their book bags, and doing their best. Every Friday, they get to spend their money in our classroom store. Students decide if they're going to buy something little, or save their money for a larger purchase.

On Thursday, we had a school wide cozy and wintry sing-a-long. Principal Niesyn also read us a lovely story about kindness and friendship. Room 18 has been learning how to read a map. Learning cardinal directions and how to locate items on a map can be tricky. Take a look at this pirate map. Can you student fill in the missing cardinal directions on the compass rose, and determine the location of the following items?
1. The treasure is ____________ of the pirates. 2. The pirates are ____________ of the ships. 3. The ships are _____________ of the parrot. And if you can't seem to remember the cardinal directions, remember: Never Eat Soggy Waffles Students have been working on telling small moment stories during writer's workshop. These are stories that happen at one time, in one place and are true. We have been making sure to include spaces between words and ending punctuation.
Today, students selected a favorite story to publish. They added more interesting details to the text and illustrations, and gave their stories title pages. When publishing is complete, students will have a chance to share their stories with their classroom friends. This week we've been practicing choosing "good-fit books" for independent reading. A good-fit book, is a book that a student can read with independence, but still offers a bit of a challenge to help improve reading strategies. A good rule of thumb is, if there are more than 5 unknown words on a page, the book is too hard.
This week in math we have been talking about making 10 and all the different number combinations to make 10. The goal is fluency on facts to 10.
Here are two different worksheets you can drag to desktop to print, and complete at home. This is optional, but any completed work that is returned to me will earn a sticker. |
